SWITZERLAND. Bern. Stadt. Sechzehnerpfennig (Silver, 43 mm, 24.47 g, 6 h), 1700. SENATUS•ET•SEDECIM•VIRI•REIP•BERNENSIS Bear walking to left in sexfoil. Rev. LIBERTAS - LIBERIS - CVRAE 1700 Armor-clad right arm, on the left and holding sword, clasping hands with half-draped right arm, on the right and holding scepter; above, radiating sun and laurel wreath. SM 612. Beautifully toned. An attractive medal with beautiful iconography. Good very fine.

The impressive Sechzehnerpfennige were handed out since 1667 in Bern each year on Holy Thursday to the Sechzehnerausschuß des Großen Rats (Committee of Sixteen of the Grand Council)
